When purchasing a racquetball racquet, there are several key features that a player should consider.  These features are different for players of different ages and abilities levels and can affect how you play during a game of racquetball.

First, you should consider the weight of the racquet.  This is one of the most important features that are involved with the racquet and that changes with age.  It is important to understand how to hit the ball harder and accurately.  Basic physics explain that the force behind the struck ball is generated by the mass of the racquet multiplied by the acceleration applied to the racquet by the player’s swing.

Therefore, typically younger and more athletic players can swing the racquet with more acceleration and can use a lighter racquet while still generating the same amount of force.

Consequently, older players who can no longer generate high racquet speed and benefit from using a heavier racquet to produce similar force.  The average weight of lighter racquets is usually around 175 grams and the average weight of heavier racquets is typically between 180 and 190 grams.

Another key factor to consider is the grip size on the racquet.  Many experts recommend using the smallest grip that you are comfortable with.  This is to give you the ability to have the greatest range of motion while playing.

However, it is also necessary to think about the size glove you wear.  Players who wear extra small, small or medium sized gloves should use a smaller grip.

In addition, if you typically play with an extra large glove, you should most likely use a larger grip on your racquet.  Players who use large gloves can generally use both large and small grips.

Strings are also very important to consider when buying racquetball racquets.  While finding out what strings are on your new racquet is vital, there are some conditions attached to this.  For example, if you have never played with a new racquet or the specific racquet you are purchasing, do not automatically restring the racquet.

Instead, you should play with the racquet with the factory strings for a few games and see how it fits your game.  Then, if the strings do not react how you like, you can pay a small fee to get the racquet restrung with strings that will benefit your playing style.
